Municipality located 40 km south of Barcelona, Sitges has long been landlocked. It is surrounded by hills to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. The neighboring municipalities are San Pere de Rives to the west and north-west, Olivella and Begas to the north, and Casteldefels to the east. Sitges is now accessible by motorway from Barcelona but, for a very long time, only a small road by the sea and the road crossing the mountains by Sant Pere de Ribes made it possible to reach it. The city, cosmopolitan, is one of the most "trendy" Spanish seaside resorts in the Mediterranean, a holiday resort for the great families of Spain, a party place for the golden youth of Barcelona (many renowned bars and clubs, a European gay city ).
