Chiasso is a Swiss municipality in the canton of Ticino located on the border with Italy. It is the southernmost municipality in the country and is on the main international transit route from Basel to Milan via the Saint-Gothard massif. Although located on Swiss territory, in Mendrisiotto, the municipality of Chiasso is part of the Po plain. It forms an agglomeration with Como and Mendrisio. Gateway to the south of Switzerland, its location as a border town means that it is an important commercial center, both for road and rail traffic. Its main thoroughfare, Corso San Gottardo, is a series of banks, commercial buildings and logistics companies.
